30 Days of Gratitude….Day 7…..

My daughter loves to entertain….

A real chip-off-the-old-block, she grew up with parties.

When she was 9 years old, it was a blustery, wet day in Sacramento and she wanted to play with her friends.

She came up with the brilliant idea of having a skating party in our single car garage.

We cleared, cleaned, and decorated it with crepe paper ribbons and balloons, set up the record player, and invited all of the kids in the neighborhood.

With the garage door open, the sound track from the movie “Grease” playing, the kids enjoyed skating in circles while the rain poured down just outside, at her impromptu party.

Fast forward 30 years, and she continues to have, Burger parties, full moon parties, Halloween, Christmas, and Hanukah parties, but on a larger scale, and usually all inclusive with her friends and their partners and children as well.

Many of these parties are made on the spur of the moment or only a week in advance.

This time, we are coming in behind two days of garage sale-ing to divest her of some furniture from a storage unit, and there are boxes all over the house that need to be stored.

I suggested that she post-pone the party, but she had already committed to her friend to have a natural skincare product line called Pure Mana from the big island of Hawaii, and it’s owners (organic farmers of coffee and macadamia nuts) fly in to be showcased at the party, and the invitations had already been sent out.

Apparently, the warehouse for the cosmetic line had been destroyed in a huge fire, with all of the merchandise along with it.  So, friends in Oahu, got together, and volunteered flowers, catering, and my daughter, the use of her home for the party.

Undeterred, we carry on with the plans to have the house ready for guests.

The party was a success.

Everything fell into place.

There were more than 40 people attending.

It was a lovely evening had by all.

How many of us long for our own comfy cottage in the woods? I know I do! We can make our own comfy cottage, right here, right now, no matter where we live. I'm a mother of two, grandmother of two boys, interior designer who thinks out-of-the-box, up cycler, and interested in just about anything related to living comfortably and finding contentment, connecting with the Great Spirit in the natural world and respect for all beings who walk the earth.

    1. Sometimes it’s hard for me to keep up with so many parties, but everyone always has so much fun, and there is so much love to be shared. It’s a nice way to embrace your community. Not being a Native Hawaiian, can be a challenge, but the people who live on the islands love getting together.
