Dear Diary…Day 14…27 things for 27 days challenge…..

I’m beginning to see the big picture of work and play, work and rest, and creating balance.

As I declutter, I’m noticing how I have a tendency to over-compensate my life with endless projects.

It’s okay to have projects, books to read, and things that I like around me.

but when it becomes lop-sided, my house starts giving me hints that there’s just too much.

for instance,

If I start a project, but it just sits there not drawing me back to finish it, then maybe that craft, or project just isn’t a good match.

I started making a crazy quilt years ago, and just wasn’t motivated to finish it.  It got too complicated for me.  So, I eventually donated it.

another red flag that showed up today was items that I keep moving around the house, but never seem to find a place for, like that picture that I’ve never hung.

Why do I choose to continually move these things around and how much time have I spent over the last year moving it?

Jewelry is another thing that I’m having trouble parting with.

I’m glad I have 27 days to keep working through all of this madness because the whole process is really helping me figure myself out.

I’m starting to have a deeper understanding of what I really want, and of what I don’t want in my life.

Today, I was motivated to finish this banner that I started quite a while ago.

I sent it off to one of my sisters who just got a new apartment.

I used hemp string, and  I had to keep cutting the end so that it didn’t fray when I threaded it through the holes.

It has nine cards for completion, and achievement in feng shui.  I am hoping it will bring her happiness and prosperity. ( But first I had to try it out over my bed!)

I hope she likes it.  I really like the one I made for my apartment.  ( see first photo at the top).

It’s like a big smiling greeting every time I enter my humble abode.

I found these postcards at Ikea

I guess I should have vacuumed!  But here it is, spread out on the floor.  I used 9 feet of hemp string, 4 post cards, and cut 5 rectangles the same size as the postcard from craft paper.  I hope you try it!

These postcards are by Edith Holden, Notes of an Edwardian Lady

This is the one in my place.  I used all 9 postcards for this one.

Thanks for visiting!  Please come back again.  We still have 13 more days to the countdown of 27 things in 27 days.  Please sign up so you don’t miss a post!

How many of us long for our own comfy cottage in the woods? I know I do! We can make our own comfy cottage, right here, right now, no matter where we live. I'm a mother of two, grandmother of two boys, interior designer who thinks out-of-the-box, up cycler, and interested in just about anything related to living comfortably and finding contentment, connecting with the Great Spirit in the natural world and respect for all beings who walk the earth.

  1. Love the wall hangings! And even though I’m not exactly doing the clutter clearing like you are, I am becoming aware of decorating ideas in my thought process… that is new to me. I have half a dozen or more pictures/paintings to be hung that have been sitting on the floor forever, some that are hanging need to be moved, paint colors, window treatments, etc… I wonder where this is going to go… 🙂
